Wedding of Manuella and David Newsome
Aug 23, 2013 was Manuella and David's wedding at the Frankfurt Temple.  They are such a cute couple.  We are so grateful we could be with them and all the family and friends.

This large house on the Temple grounds is where the Temple president is living.
The property used to belong to a wealthy farmer.
The previous owner of the property had the initials HLT so the front door has his initials and it is also the initials of the church in German.

BIKE RIDE TO RHINE STRAND BAD AND WALD
Last Saturday, we rode to the Rhine beach and then back through the wald park.  This is a very nice park right on the river where we enjoy watching the barges and pleasure boats while we are sitting on the nice grass.  The wald park has very nice forested trails.  We got rained on really hard for most of the way back so we where very soaked but it wasn't too cold so we still had a good time.  The route we took on the way down was through the industrial area so it wasn't too pretty and kinda noisy with traffic.  We ended up coming up through part of downtown Mannheim on the way back.

MISSIONARIES
We had Sister Samantha Smith and Sister Holly Nufer, our missionaries over for dinner last week.  We had the Elder Tanner Ellsworth and Elder Chase Pearson over last night.  We took a walk with the Sister's to our backyard lakes but we have not had the chance to get the Elders to walk down there yet.
They would really like to hold the babies but it isn't possible.  The mother goose does not allow it.

We have a lot of fun with them and they teach us well.

APPLE PIE
There is a lot of apple orchards around this area.  I have seen several wild apple trees so when I saw one tree loaded with apples next to the tram easement, I went on my bike and picked some to make a pie.   When I rode my bike up to it I saw that all the lower ones have already been picked by people so I had to climb the tree to get to them.  This is where I needed Christina, she is good at and likes to climb trees.  I did climb it but it gives me the heebee jeebees.  But I did get enough apples to make a pie.  These apples are pippin apples, I suppose, crisp firm and very juicy.  They are really hard to peel because they are so small and so slippery once you start peeling them.  I don't have one of those fancy peeling devices.  It took me quite a long time to peel them, they kept popping out of my hand and went flying through the kitchen.  The pie was very tasty but really watery/juicy.  So I have read up on the internet about that and have several things to try next time with these fresh apples.  Suggestions are, use a thickener like cornstarch or  tapioca which I have not been able to find in Germany, it must be called something else and isn't in the pudding section of the store.  Or I can cut larger slits in the crust to let more moisture out.  Or I can let the sugar set on the fruit in a colander over a bowl until some of the juice is leached out.  Or I can cook the apples a little before putting them into the pie.
Apples in my sink.  Some are really small.
Looks nice on the outside and was tasty on the inside just too much juice.
I poured off the juice to make it more normal.

SEWING
I've been doing mending for people.  It keeps me busy, challenged and I get enough money to buy bread and a few things each week.  One lady has become interested in learning to sew and has ordered a sewing machine on-line, it should arrive soon and I will help her get started with learning.  Here are some of the things I've done this week.
The customer wanted this duvet cover split into two for two chaise lounge covers.
I used the small strip of fabric from between the two cushion covers to make a small pillow as a bonus for her.
The customer needed the rip in the front of these carpenters pants repaired.
The customer wanted this scarf split lengthwise to be used to wrap a curtain rod.
This was a little challenging because the fabric was so thin.
I had to sew it to tissue paper then pick out the tissue fragments from between the stitches.
The customer needed these Komocauzy pants shortened.
This was very think fabric like sailcloth.
My sewing machine would not go through the doubled seam area.

The customer wanted the pink scarf attached to the shirt so it wouldn't move while she is working.
I sewed it on by hand and gathered the fabric up for fullness.

APRON
Made another apron today.

CHURCH BBQ
Saturday afternoon we had a church BBQ (Grill) behind our church.  We had a good turn out of people.  There was a little difficulty getting the coals to start but they finally caught and all had some good food.  I had made the blackberry pie and cobbler to share.  I didn't bring any home.   Now it is time to pick more blackberries.

The Frisbee really helped with starting the briquets.
