STOFFMARKT HOLLAND - FABRIC MARKET
There is a fabric market that comes to this area twice a year. It is only for one day from 10am-5pm. I wish it were more often and longer. It was the BEST market! Fabric prices where much less than in the store and the selections are wonderful. There are also notions and machines to purchase. I spent a lot of time there and met our two missionaries there, Sister Smith and Sister Moon. They are interested in making a skirt for themselves so I will help them to do that. I will make the skirt patterns for them from a couple of skirts that they like and loaned to me so I could make patterns. Fabric and patterns are really expensive in the stores here and the patterns are not very good with very little selection. I talked to a sewing person at church and she buys her patterns from New York and has them shipped. So I just ordered a few patterns on-line myself. I'll see how long they take to get here. I wish the shipping wasn't costing so much but even with that, the pattern prices where less than trying to buy them in a store. Most pattern companies now offer downloadable patterns you can print. But I don't have a printer. Even when I come back to the U.S. I'll probably order them on-line from now on as they have some specials like $1.99 each. The next time the market comes to this area will be in September in Mannheim and Ludwigshafen (near here) in October. I may go to both because now I know what there is to offer and I'll think of ideas by then and want to get some projects lined up for winter time.

The market was crowded.
They should make it last longer and spread out the rows more as it is difficult to get to the tables sometimes. |
Rows and rows of great selections of fabrics. |
Good prices, some are as low as 2 or 3 euros per meter. |
The tram stop leaving the market was filled with happy customers with bags loaded with sewing supplies and fabric. |
